Jay Drick to run for District Judge?

Reliable sources told me that Jay Drick will soon be announcing his candidacy for one of the District Court seats currently held by Theresa Brennan.

Jay is a good guy and a strict constitutionalist. He has my support.

I hope he runs. I was appauled to learn what a liberal she was AND protested against our troops. GO DRICK ( I think his son served in Iraq)!!

Sorry, she protested against the senseless war and in support of the troops. I can think of no better way to support the troops than to not risk their lives for no reason

Go Jay!! Brennan is dangerously liberal. She was appointed, not elected. Do Nothing Debbie Stabenow convinced her partner in incompetence, Jennifer Granhom to appoint Brennan judge because she could not get elected by the people of Livingston County. Brennan is going down!

I've said it over and over but will say it one more time. I defy you to name me one ruling, one case, one act that Brennan made or took that serves as evidence that her personal views impact her actions as a Judge. You do our system of government a terrible disservice when you carry the liberal/conservative turf war into local judicial elections. Will Jay Drick be a better judge because he's known around town as a good old boy conservative? In other words, he's one of "us" so he ust be ok? That kind of attitude sells his credentials short. And I know the likely response from our esteemed blogger will be "well, the partisanship and politization of the judiciary is really on the federal level, blah, blah, blah, but.." If that's where the problem is, then leave it there. Don't make an issue where there isn't one. Frankly, I know Judge Brennan and thought she was ill equipped to the bench. I have been pleasantly surprised. She has done a good job and is becoming a good judge. That's how it works sometimes and you can't always tell how it will work out. I've seen good attorneys make lousy judges, lousy attorneys make good judges, good District Judges turn into awful Circuit Judges and so on. Heck, John Engler named one of the worst Circuit Judges I've ever seen, Mike Talbot, to the Court of Appeals just to get him out of the way. It's not an us versus them issue and I think anyone who says otherwise is unamerican and unpatriotic.

She will be a good judge right up to election day. She was rejected by voters very recently, appointed by the Govenor BECAUSE she is a loyal Democrat and completely wrong for livingston county citizens. Lawyers are going to love any sitting judge because it is their nature to grovel at their feet. It doesnt make it right for the rest of us.

I loved the way she ran the last time. Sucking up to busisness folks, republicans and anyone else she could fool. Then after the election she was gone, back to her Democrat pals and protesting our troops.

Jay may be a good guy, but if he is running for Circuit Court he is not running against Brennan as she is the District Court Judge for Brighton.

Thanks. He's running for district court. Corrected.

Currently, Stan LaTrielle is unopposed for Circuit Court.

I think you all are missing the point. Not one of you has offered one bit of evidence that her personal views impact her decisions on the bench. The people of Livingston County are electing a judge to make decisions from the bench in the cases presented, not someone to uphold the rite of the secret handshake. You do america a disservice to suggest that someone be elected because he/she is one of "us".

That’s a funny statement, anonymous, saying when she ran she was “..Sucking up to busisness folks, republicans and anyone else she could fool.” That is what is called campaigning, and I know of no other way to be elected. Do you? And, how was she trying to fool anyone? Judicial races, especially at the District Court level, are nonpartisan? If you don’t want judges to campaign, which means reaching out to all people, then appoint them.

As for reaching out to the other party, that’s what Judge David Reader did, and no one criticized him, nor should they. He was elected to the Livingston County Board of Commissioners as a Republican, but when he ran for Circuit Court Judge I saw him at the Livingston County Democratic Party’s Annual Dinner. He reached out to us, and he was treated with respect.

And you made another false statement, she protested the war, not the troops, there is a huge, huge difference.

Brennan is a member of MoveOn.org. That says everything we need to know about her. Can't wait to vote. Jay Drick is a fine, upstanding citizen and a terrific lawyer and constitutionalist. No "anti-christ" baggage, either. Good-bye Brennan.

How would you know if she’s a member of MOVEON.org? And if she was, so what? Drick is a member of the LIVCO Republican Party, and for all I know he could be a member of the Westboro Baptist Church. And what does “No "anti-christ" baggage” Mean. You are right about one thing, Jay Drick is ” a fine, upstanding citizen and a terrific lawyer,” but so is Judge Theresa Brennan.

One of the few things the Campaign Finance Law did well was make the books more open for us to see. We can see where any of the prospective judges have donated, and it's very enlightening.

Mr. Drick will make an outstanding judge; cases brought before him will be decided on the facts and the prudent administration without bias of the laws of the state of Michigan.
Why am I qualified to make the aforementioned statement? I have been a defendant on two seperate occasions where Mr. Drick has served as plaintiffs attorney and successfully won settlements for his clients. These cases were won by him because he "knows" the law.
