I'm Back in the USSA.....

You don't know unlucky you are boys.....

Let me preface this by the following. I'm not against community service. I'm a strong believer of VOLUNTARY community service. I used to coach football for free. I loved it. If I still had the time to do a good job doing it, I'd still have the whistle and coaches golf shirt coaching.

I have a problem when it is required, mandatory, by law. That's what Comrade Obama wants. I have a problem with the following for three reasons. He changed the words for obvious political words, but I saw the original.

Originaly on Obama's website

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Problems:
1. Involuntary servitude. The constitution. Big government in DC is forcing our students by law to committ 350-850 hours of work without pay. It's a mandate.
2. What is considered community service in the eyes of government? ACORN? Radical leftist causes? This strikes me of "reducation camps."
3. How will this be enforced? No diploma? Maybe the affluent areas won't have a problem by this, but some kids have to work for money to help support the family. Will they be denied their diploma?

The Times-Gazette also caught the original with the words 'to require'.

Obama or his people. changed it later for some reason. Good thing I saved the original paragraph. Here's the new one...

Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year and by developing a plan so that all college students who conduct 100 hours of community service receive a universal and fully refundable tax credit ensuring that the first $4,000 of their college education is completely free. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

Require is now "setting a goal." That's a nice vague term. Now they are making it sound like it is tax credits? Or are they really planning for the original "requirement" and want to delay that. I still don't care for the tax credit plan. Community service should be done for the right reasons. It is something government shouldn't go near, especially from the incompetent fools in Washington DC.

My guard is up. The true intentions can often be seen by the first draft posted, and that say "to require." My response to Comrade Obama's requirement is that he can take it and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Well, I am not sure where you attended high school, but community service was "required" of us in order to graduate. Furthermore, my family is not considered "upper-class" and with the current state of the economy, we are not considered "middle class," either. Even though I never believed in the whole "middle-class" ideology: there is the rich/wealthy population and then, there are variations of "poor." Nevertheless, my high school was not filled with students from upper-class backgrounds, as well. Also, I had to do community service and work a job, as well--as is the case for many children attending my high school. It's called the real world and "responsibility".

Hey, Dan, leave out the "Comrade" stuff. That's ignorant.

I'm glad that Obama is calling for sacrifice on the part of all of us. It is sure a lot better than being told to "go shopping" after 9/11.

It's odd that when Guru, uses name monikers it is OK with you lefties. Now that Dan does it it is politically incorrect. Aisha you did not state were you went to school Russia? Then we see why you are OK with this. I went to school in Michigan and did not have to do community service. I was on co-op and went to school and then worked from 2 to 10:00 at a job 6 days a week. That is called the REAL WORLD.
Donna, You also need to take the Rose Colored Glasses off and smell the coffee. You and the rest of the world have no idea what our Arab American President Elect has in store for us. You are only guessing @ best. Are you a high school student? Collage student? No you are some middle age Rich *itch sitting there spouting your liberal views while your ex-husband is paying all the bills. What are you going to sacrifice? Thats what I thought Nothing.

Community service requirement for a high school diploma is not a communist plot, it is an idea that has been around for a long, long time and it is a good thing.
Try to take your partisan glasses off as they are blinding you.
People learn from doing and this gives a real education to how things work. Wouldn't it be great to have a few high school students serve as interns to people in our county and township offices? I think it would be wonderful! And it would be silly to call me comrade as I am no more a communist than you.
These are just plain good ideas that will help educate people and provide real world experience. I truly have always wondered why if Republicans hate government so much why do they want to be employed by government?

In order:

Aisha - I have a big problem with the word "requirement". All public schools should require for graduation is whether I can read, write, do math, know history, etc. The rest should be electives.

Donna - Well, I'll stop calling Mr. Obama comrade when he stop pushing for the restriction the free labor of Americans through contract. Calling for sacrifice is commendable. I wish he did it himself when he gave less than my family did to charity, despite having millions of dollars more through his book sales. He needs to live what he believes.

Bluzie - There's a difference between encouragement and requirement. My big problem is the word "requirement." Unless a contract is involved, I don't like requirements very much. This isn't my partisan glasses. Ideological glasses is another story. The 2nd half of your comment I agree with. Putting the word requirement (or having the feds run it and not localities) changes everything.

I don’t know where to start with this crap. Calling someone a communist because he thinks we should require public service to graduate is a huge leap. Especially when you consider many schools and colleges already do it. Just because you don’t think public service is important to an education doesn’t mean it’s not important. What if I don’t want to take math in high school? Does that make the school board communists if they require it? I don’t use it very often in my profession, so why should I take it?

As for Communist Guru: Donna and Bluzie are friends of mine, and they can ask me all they want to not use “monikers” to describe McCain and Palin. I will still use them because they have no control over me, and they are true. I call McCain Grampy McSame because hew is too old to be president, and he is just like Bush.

President Obama is neither a communist nor an Arab. He is an African-American, and we do know what he has in store for us. Perhaps you didn’t pay attention to the election? The American people didn’t buy into those false, racist smears, so the name calling means nothing.

If you want to talk about communism, socialism and redistributing wealth you just need to look at what Palin is doing in Alaska. She is taxing the oil companies and giving every single resident an annual check. That goes too far even for me. Why are you not up in arms about that, Communist Guru?

Dan here keeps talking about Daley, Chicago style politics. You should say Alaska Machine politics. Mayor Daley has never been convicted of corruption. Ted Stevens has. Mayor Daley has never been found to have abused his power, Sarah Palin has.

Communications idiot, aka Kevin Shopshire, ALERT! ALERT! Governor Palin of Alaska was cleared of all charges. Maybe you should spend more time reading newspapers and less time spewing lies.

ALERT, ALERT, ALERT. Hey idiot, the legislative investigation concluded that Sarah Palin abused her power in pushing for the firing of an Alaska state trooper who was once married to her sister, or by failing to prevent her husband Todd from doing so.

Maybe you should spend more time reading newspapers and less time spewing lies.
